Art Restaurant at the National Gallery
Situated on the 5th floor, Aura offers a formal dining experience in a relatively small 2,100 sqft foortprint. The brief was to create a space that looks formal, but is casual enough that the furniture can be moved around for various group sizes on a site with four immovable columns and a perceptibly low ceiling.
JPA overcame the challenge of the low ceiling height by cladding a portion of it, along with the columns, in rose-gold tinted mirror strips which create the perception of a much taller space.
The sleek contemporary interior of the restaurant is resplendently finished in marble, polished brass, burnt orange leather banquettes and custom-made dining chairs while commissioned sculptural works from local artists and a stepped hexagonal relief feature wall inspired by an architectural feature on the parapet of the original building’s facade add character and interest.
On the upper level, the Sky Lounge is a glass-encased rooftop lounge and dining space, with expansive outdoor terraces flanking two sides to capture stunning unobstructed views across the Singapore skyline.
An all-day destination for casual dining, Sky Lounge transitions in the evenings into a vibrant rooftop bar. The spaciously furnished venue has a relaxed modern vibe with the lustrous white marble-topped bar as its centerpiece.
